Fabric as Art
The Chaise Longue Co are delighted to now offer fabrics from Edinburgh Weavers for upholstery on our chaise longues, sofas and chairs.
Since their inception in 1928, Edinburgh Weavers has put concept and artistry first. Their most renowned director was Alastair Morton, the third generation in the Morton textiles dynasty.
Inspired and tutored by his father and grandfather before him, Alastair took the reins in 1931 and boldly set out to fuse textiles and modern art. He commissioned illustrious British designers to create work for the company, such as Barbara Hepworth, Terence Conran and Paul Nash.
90 years later, Edinburgh Weavers are still using artists instead of fabric designers, encouraging them to develop pieces that are uninhibited by the technical constraints of textiles manufacturing.
They then use their years of experience and craftsmanship to turn these designs into magnificent printed or woven material. The results are truly unique fabrics - richer and more intricate, making inspiring backdrops for contemporary living.

Wemyss Hutton fabrics for your chaise!
Chaise Longue Co have now added another beautiful fabric from Wemyss to our fabric library. The Hutton range of high quality, stylish, plain weaves offers a wide range colours whilst providing peace of mind with Fibreguard stain repellent technology.
Wemyss has been established for over 70 years and can trace its roots directly to the weaving mill established by the brothers George and James Johnston in East Wemyss, Scotland as far back as the 1860’s.
Now re-located in Dundee since 2006 their designers work closely with a carefully selected group of the best weavers and printers across the world drawing inspiration from archive documents, the natural world as well as other topical themes to continually create beautiful new collections of fabrics and wallcoverings.
