You want your home to be comfortable and stylish, but also environmentally responsible. One way to achieve this is by opting for locally sourced furniture. Locally sourced furniture refers to furniture that is made from materials procured from a nearby region, and crafted by local artisans. In this article, we delve into why locally sourced furniture including chaise longues is good for everyone, including you.
One of the primary benefits of buying locally sourced furniture is its environmental impact. Locally sourced furniture requires less transportation, which means fewer carbon emissions during transit. This reduces the overall carbon footprint of the furniture from manufacturing to delivery. By purchasing locally sourced furniture, you are reducing your carbon footprint and contributing towards a sustainable future.
Moreover, locally sourced furniture manufacturers often use renewable resources, and prioritise sustainable materials over synthetic ones. This means that you can rest easy knowing that your furniture is eco-friendly while still being stylish and functional.
Another reason to opt for locally sourced furniture is that it supports local businesses and communities. When you purchase locally sourced furniture, you are supporting independent businesses, rather than large corporations. This helps to create jobs within the community, which in turn benefits the local economy.
Moreover, by opting for locally sourced furniture, you help to promote the artisanal skills and traditions that have been passed down through generations. These skills are often overlooked in today’s fast-paced world where mass-produced products dominate the market. By choosing locally sourced furniture, you are helping to keep traditional craftsmanship and skills alive.
Locally sourced furniture often features unique and authentic designs that are not found in mass-produced furniture. This is because local artisans are able to create bespoke furniture that is tailored to your specific needs and preferences. You can choose from different styles, fabrics, and finishes to create a piece of furniture that complements your home decor perfectly.
For instance, if you’re looking for a comfortable piece of furniture for your living room, you may select a chaise longue or sofa that has been crafted by a local artisan. You can choose the fabric, colour and style that best meets your aesthetic preferences. Similarly, if you’re looking for a statement piece to add to your home office, you may opt for a unique chair that is both functional and visually appealing.
When it comes to furniture, quality is key. Locally sourced furniture is crafted by skilled artisans who take pride in their workmanship. They use high-quality materials and pay careful attention to detail when designing and crafting each piece of furniture. This means that locally sourced furniture is often of superior quality than mass-produced furniture. Rather than settling for a flimsy, disposable piece of furniture, you can invest in a durable, long-lasting piece that will stand the test of time.
Contrary to popular belief, locally sourced furniture is often cost-effective in the long run. Although it may seem more expensive than mass-produced furniture initially, the durability and longevity of locally sourced furniture mean that it does not need to be replaced as frequently. Moreover, local artisans often offer customisation options that allow you to select the features you need, rather than paying for unnecessary extras. This means that you can get a piece of furniture that is tailored to your needs and preferences, without breaking the bank.
In conclusion, locally sourced furniture is an excellent option for your home. It offers a range of benefits, including environmental responsibility, support for local businesses and communities, unique and authentic designs, superior quality and cost-effectiveness. So the next time you’re looking for a new piece of furniture, consider buying locally sourced furniture. Not only will you be investing in a piece that will last for years to come, but you’ll also be supporting your local community, promoting sustainable practices and adding a touch of authenticity to your home.

This weeks best Chaise of the Week is a Modern extra-large chaise lounge with a traditional twist. Our client used a Linwood Tresco fabric to combine that country garden feel but, with a more modern shaped chaise lounge, and the result looks stunning. Tresco, a traditional floral design has been expertly repainted in the Linwood studio and is based on an archival design. Complimenting the chaise is a set of hand polished walnut splayed legs, which like the frame are made from sustainably sourced hardwood.
For 27 years Linwood, the Hampshire-based family business has put excellence at the heart of everything they do. For them it’s personal, from the quality of their designs to the level of service they provide. In that rather English way, they straddle the worlds of creativity and innovation to produce distinctive collections of fabrics and wallpapers. Each year, Linwood continues to offer unique collections bursting with fresh ideas, while retaining the quality and artistry they are renowned for.

For our best Chaise of the Week #18, we have this beautiful extra-large chaise longue upholstered in a clients own Timorous Beasties Golden Oriole fabric with oak ball & claw legs. This striking velvet makes this chaise a true statement piece. Underneath the fabric we have high quality foam and fillings, a steel sprung seat and a hardwood frame giving our chaise lounges lasting comfort. All our chaises can be upholstered in any of our fabrics, and you can even supply your own.
In 2004 Timorous Beasties released their acclaimed Glasgow Toile: by reversing the pastoral context of toiles de Jouy, they transformed the traditional toile device to create an new modern urban genre. The Hotch Blotch fabric series challenges a 1000-year old aesthetic mode by placing disorder within the structure of damask pattern to reveal the inherent beauty of splatters, drips and blotches. Hunting Toile and Urban wallpapers mark a synthesis of 18th-century Chinoiserie groupings, Rococo swirls and Victorian silhouette paper cuts to create a uniquely contemporary ornamental textiles pattern repeat.
The art critic John Ruskin related a universal connection between nature, art and society. Timorous Beasties share a similar world view, where plants, animals and society are visually inextricable. They are devoted to how that impacts as pattern design in our daily experience of furnished spaces, from one-bedroom flats to country villas, to the halls of civic and government buildings, departure lounge backdrops, boutique enclaves, restaurants, and hotels.
